Catch Sleepless, a uniquely charming film about two insomniacs.
Sleepless is an original indie film that is part of this year’s QCinema International Film Festival Circle Competition. Featuring a diverse selection of original Filipino films, critically acclaimed local and international films, and documentaries, QCinema runs from October 22 to 31 at Trinoma, Gateway Mall, and Robinson’s Galleria cinemas.
Set in an urban setting, Sleepless is about finding an unexpected connection. The story revolves around Gem (Glaiza de Castro) and Barry (Dominic Roco)—two lonely people who are both insomniacs. Both are stuck in a rut, working dead-end jobs at a call center. They explore the city at night and find ways to kill time. A bond develops between Gem and Barry, who talk about zombies, love, and everything in between. Together, they fight the loneliness that keeps them awake. In the end, they realize that even though you can’t cure insomnia, you just need someone to lean on until the sun comes up.
This is director Prime Cruz’ first feature-length film, as well as his first collaboration with screenplay writer Jen Chuaunsu. Cruz encouraged lead actors Glaiza de Castro and Dominic Roco to improvise, and some of their spontaneous moments were captured in the film.
Sleepless is produced by directors Jun Lana and Perci Intalan of The Idea First Company, in association with Indioboy Productions, Monoxide Works, and Arsenal.
Be sure to catch Sleepless on these dates: October 26 (Monday), 8 pm, Trinoma; October 29 (Thursday), 2:50 pm, Trinoma; October 30 (Friday), 1 pm, Trinoma.
