Singer-comedian Mikey Bustos surprised “Simpsons” creator Matt Groening with a gift from the Philippines!
Bustos filmed the 68-year-old American cartoonist unboxing his gift on his Instagram page, which was a figurine of a jeepney.
“This is very beautiful,” Groening told him. “This is great. Thank you very much. I love it. I”m gonna have to keep it on a high shelf because my kids will take it apart.”
Bustos later shared in a post that he had met up with Groening’s family to spend time with them at their Malibu Beach House. “Talk about a paradise! Sun was out, waves were crazy huge, and food was delicious! We were completely inspired by the experience. Huge thank you to the Groenings for having us! [Rj Garcia] and I will never forget this day EVER!” he wrote.
It was back in February 2021 when Groening gifted Bustos a personalized drawing depicting the iconic character Homer Simpson covered in fire ants as a tribute to Bustos’ hobby of antkeeping. Groening’s son is an “avid fan” of Bustos’ AntsCanada YouTube channel and the cartoonist got in touch with the Filipino comedian to schedule Zoom meetings for his son to talk about his growing antkeeping passion with his idol.
“I literally grew up watching The Simpsons, so meeting the Groenings via Matt’s son watching @antscanada is a full circle moment for me! I will treasure this artwork forever!” Bustos wrote at the time.
