A Filipina from Cavite was recently arrested for selling envelopes that look like 1,000-peso bills. On 24 Oras, it was stated that an undercover agent bought 150 envelopes from the suspect.
Although these envelopes may be seen as mere fun items to put money into and to give as gifts, it is actually against the law to sell them. According to Philippine law, using images of or images that are similar to Philippine currency banknotes is prohibited unless Bangko Sentral has given them the authority to use said images. Not only do these items ruin the currency’s integrity, but some people might also use them maliciously as fake money in actual financial transactions.
