WATCH: Doctor Demonstrates Amazing Face Mask Hack to Make it More Protective

In this new normal where protective gear has become an important part of our wardrobe every time we step out of the house, almost everyone now owns a face mask. And while a regular face mask should be enough for a healthy, common citizen, those looking for better protection usually turns to high-grade face masks like the N95.

But N95s are harder to acquire now due to demand. Plus, they are also being regulated in most countries to reserve them for those who need it most—our medical workers and frontliners.

But, turns out, there is a way to tweak your regular face mask to make them more sealed and, therefore, more protective. Dr. Olivia Cuid, a dentist from Canada, recently went viral for her Tiktok video that demonstrates how to make your regular face mask more effective. Watch the video below:

As shown in the video, you just have to fold the mask horizontally in half, then tie the ear straps on each side as closely as you can to the mask. To get rid of the gap this knot creates, just tuck both edges of the mask inward. When worn, this creates sort of a cupped appearance with no openings on the side, similar to N95s.
