THE platter. Contains a variety of food: vegetables, seafood, pork, chicken and more! I tried the scallops and they tasted good! Perfectly salty and mostly melt-in-your-mouth, but with a little bite to it.

Tikoy Bites with Pork Floss

Tikoy (or Glutinous Rice Cake) in Chinese sounds like “getting higher year-on- by year”. Normally, it looks like this:

But when we were told that this was the tikoy that they serve…

…everybody was like “that’s tikoy?”. Make no mistake, though – it’s a delicious treat. The pastry shell is flaky, and the combination of tikoy and pork floss turned out to be an awesome one-two punch of sweet and savory.

Almond and Lychee Water Cake

I was hesitant to eat it. I mean JUST LOOK AT IT! Breaking it would be like breaking a pristine glass sculpture. It’s delicious, though: perfectly sweet with a contrast of textures thanks to the crushed almonds.

Mandarin Orange Chocolate Cake

Ah, yes, the cake. I have a soft spot for good cakes. And I also know that Orange (whose circular shape represents fullness and whose “golden” color represents fortune) goes well with Chocolate. Just looking at it, I really, really, REALLY wanted to eat it all for myself. From the way it looks – that shiny chocolate ganache up top, the contrast and vibrant colors provided by the fruits (cherries and oranges) – I knew that I won’t be disappointed with it. Slicing into the cake was effortless. The taste? Magnificent.

It’s a moist cake without being overly dense. It’s chocolatey sans orange slices (expected some zing because of the name), but once you bite into an orange slice, BOOM! – delicious.

It’s perfectly sweet. The tartness of the oranges definitely cut down the sweetness of the chocolate, resulting in an impressive balancing act. If it weren’t for the fact that I was already full, I could’ve eaten another slice or two. Overall, it’s my favorite among the items we tasted. Then again, it could be my bias towards cake.

Do you believe in luck that eating these kinds of food bring? Well, whether you do or don’t, it’s food. Seriously good food. And again, this is a buffet we’re talking about so stuff yourself all you want! Kung Hei (but don’t get) Fat Ch…err, rather, Kiong Hee Huat Tsai!
