Two weeks ago, I didn’t know I’d be flying back to Vietnam. Fortunately, my accommodation became the least of my worries! While I managed through last-minute packing and checked out every trendy (and niche) spot worth visiting in Saigon, I still felt a sense of relief knowing I had a room where I could breathe and rest after a three-hour flight.

If you’ve already booked that flight to Vietnam, the next thing to do is look for a safe, trusted, and relaxing stay around the city! Whether you’re traveling to Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Noi, Da Nang, Da Lat, or Hoi An, Modern Village Lifestyle offers plenty of rooms ideal for both short-term and long-term travelers visiting these destinations for leisure or work.

In my case, I checked in at Express by M Village, 46 Thao Dien, located in the heart of Thao Dien (District 2)’s serene and creative scene. It was everything I wanted in an overseas accommodation: something that feels unique to the area I’m staying in while still having the warmth of Filipino hospitality I look for when I’m home.

First look at my room

As a solo traveler, just having a roof above me and a bed to sleep on (plus a good bathroom with a bidet, which is a solid non-negotiable) is more than enough for me. But the moment I stepped into my deluxe room, I was immediately blown away.

Featuring mid-century modern interiors, the room feels light and warm the moment you step inside. There’s a cozy seating area where you can just jump right in and lounge, letting time pass by freely before you finally cross off your sightseeing or shopping bucket list!

Aside from the cozy seating area, the room has a comfortable king-sized bed with huge windows that offer an overlooking view of Thao Dien’s quiet neighborhood. It’s hard to jump out of bed the moment you wake up—that’s all I’m saying!

But here’s an extra feature of the room that I liked: a separate working desk. Maybe this may not matter to most travelers, but as someone who works from home, having a separate space to work instead of just working on your bed adds a boost of motivation to finish those deliverables (but who’s really in the mood to work when you’re traveling, right?). You also don’t have to worry about poor connectivity in the area! The room has strong WiFi for work and connectivity, and the mobile network works well, too.

The room also has a bright and spacious standing bathroom (there’s also a bidet, just in case you’re wondering). It’s equipped with standard toiletries for your everyday needs. Furthermore,  long-term travelers do not have to worry about storage, as there is adequate storage space for your essentials.

With 35 square meters of space, the room definitely boasts a functional layout for solo travelers who want more room to unwind or work, or for couples seeking more comfort away from the bustle of the city.

Indeed, the luxury that the room exudes is truly a bang for your buck! This deluxe room is priced at 1,050,000 VND a night (or P2,500+), making it an ideal spot for Filipino travelers looking for affordable stays in Saigon without sacrificing comfort.

Express by M Village, 46 Thao Dien also has a standard room (priced at 850,000 VND or P2,000+), a superior room without a view (priced at 950,000 VND or P2,280+), a deluxe city view (priced at 1,150,000 VND or P2,700+), a two-bedroom city view (priced at 1,500,000 VND or P3,600+), a Junior Suite (priced at 1,550,000 VND or P3,700+), and a Suite 1 Bedroom (priced at 1,650,000 VND or P3,900+).

Prices vary depending on the Modern Village Lifestyle hotel branch.

Available amenities

Apart from the beautiful room I just checked into, Express by M Village, 46 Thao Dien also has shared amenities! It’s a great base for those who want to live, work, and unwind in the area.

As soon as you step into the reception area, there’s a lounge bar open for those who want to grab a quick drink and chat if you’re feeling too lazy or tired to head outside. They have an extensive selection of beverages that will suit your preference.

Just a few more steps outside the reception area, you’ll find their co-working space, communal kitchen, and gym! Their co-working space has limited seating for those who prefer not to work in their hotel rooms, but it’s equipped with charging sockets, lighting fixtures, and high-speed Wi-Fi, so you can work on those deliverables without the distraction of your room’s soft and cozy bed.

In case you get hungry, you can simply make your way to the communal kitchen, where you can cook, wash the dishes, and store your takeout and leftovers. The area is clean and well-maintained, so make sure to leave it the same way when you use it.

Finally, if you want to incorporate a bit of exercise into your stay, they have a small yet well-lit gym where you can lift a few weights or do your usual workout routine.

If you’re staying long-term and worrying about your dirty laundry, they have a self-service laundry room! Located on the sixth floor, it has washing machines, dryers, and detergents where you can wash and dry your clothes, as well as an iron and ironing board. You can also request an iron for your room by contacting their butler for assistance.

Overall experience

Despite the limited time I had in Ho Chi Minh City, I was still able to get a relaxing night’s sleep and enjoy a hassle-free experience at M Village. It left such a strong impression on me that I’m already planning a Vietnam trip in the near future.

True to its core philosophy, the brand is not just letting you experience what it’s like to check in at a hotel and find a place to sleep through the night; it’s letting you experience a feeling and a connection to the city. The moment you wake up, there’s this tingling excitement about heading downstairs to use the shared amenities, where you might bump into a fellow traveler and strike up a lighthearted conversation, or simply let your feet take you outside to explore what the city has to offer!

As someone who finds comfort in familiarity, I’d definitely book my next stay at Express by M Village, 46 Thao Dien, just so I can immerse myself more in District 2’s hip yet quieter atmosphere. Scrambling through shopping centers and sightseeing destinations within District 1 and District 3, I found that District 2 had that communal vibe and distinctive charm that won my heart.

But if you want to be nearer to popular destinations or explore an unfamiliar district that might be up your alley, there’s definitely a Modern Village Lifestyle hotel that can make your stay more memorable than the last.
