Multi-award winning actor and director Eddie Garcia passed away on June 20, Thursday at 4:55 p.m. Both family friend Bibeth Orteza and spokesperson Tony Rebosa confirmed the sad news. He suffered from a neck fracture incurred from taping the GMA teleserye Rosang Agimat last June 8 and had been in critical condition since.
He leaves behind an impressive legacy of nearly 7 decades in showbusiness with over 600 movies under his belt as actor and director. Garcia is also the most-nominated and awarded person in terms of the FAMAS Award — somewhat ironically as he has always said that he does not make films to be awarded. Until the end, he was doing what he loved and what he was gifted with: performing in front of a camera.
According to ABS-CBN, Garcia has had plans set in the place in the event of his death. A simple farewell is what he always wished for, to be cremated directly and have his ashes spread on Manila Bay. He asked for no obituary or wake, as well.
