Veho Muvi K2 Action Camera: A Cheaper GoPro Alternative

Veho Muvi K2 Action Camera: A Cheaper GoPro Alternative

If you’re  looking for an action camera for all of your trips, adventures, and sports, the GoPro will probably resonate in your mind. The thing is: not everyone is willing to shell out that much money for a GoPro. Mot all of us are in need of 4K video quality, either. So, what can you purchase to fulfil the same purpose? What product can keep up or do the job, but won’t be as expensive as a GoPro?

Have you heard of Veho? Veho is a company that also caters to action cameras. They already have quite a few products, and the great thing about Veho’s Muvi series action cameras is that the pricing is pretty fair compared to GoPro and other GoPro competitors. For this review, I’ll be presenting Veho’s latest action camera: the Veho Muvi K2 action camera!

Veho Muvi K2 Action Camera

The Veho Muvi K2 action camera has a similar shape to the GoPro camera yet retains its own difference in design. It’s not hard to say that the Veho Muvi K2 action camera is comparable to the GoPro Hero 3+ as they have similar specifications. 1080p at 60fps/720p at 120fps. Though incapable of any resolution higher than 1080p, the GoPro Hero 3+ isn’t really that usable above 1080p due to the 4K video being stuck at 15fps.

The Veho Muvi K2 has some advantages over the GoPro Hero 3 and Hero 3+ in terms of hardware, as well. First is the physical Wi-Fi switch. The GoPro Hero 3 cameras have an issue where the Wi-Fi stays on even when the camera is off. You’ll have to navigate through the menu first to turn off Wi-Fi before turning the camera off – a big hassle when on-the-go and needing to save battery.

Secondly, the Veho Muvi K2’s protective waterproof case can reach all the way to 100m underwater! GoPro cameras can only go to about 40m. Thirdly: buttons, buttons, buttons! The buttons on the Veho Muvi K2 have more buttons compared to others, but that’s a good thing. Taking photos and videos are separated by 2 buttons. No need to navigate the menu to switch from one to the other like you do with GoPro Hero cameras. To take a video, you will have to press the stop button at the top. I personally think this is good, so you can avoid accidentally cutting off your video when you’re not sure if you’re recording yet or not. Let’s face it: it’s better to have extra nonsense footage than to miss out on good footage, right?

Moving on to quality: the photo capabilities of the Veho Muvi K2 are great! It churns out 16mp compared to GoPro’s 12mp. While GoPro has a better color balance, low light, and sharpness because of its better camera sensor, the photo capabilities of the Veho Muvi K2 don’t lag far behind! As for video capabilities, this is where you will see why GoPro has made a name for itself. By far, there is none that rivals GoPro’s video quality. Don’t get me wrong: the Veho Muvi K2 is good. Details are great at 720 and 1080. Slowing down 720 on 120fps is engaging and satisfying. Not much ghosting when slowing down 120fps to 30fps or even 24fps. Color saturation is good with videos and I can say that I prefer the colors of the Veho Muvi K2 over the GoPro Hero 2 and maybe even the Hero 3 Silver on some occasions.

Against the Hero 3+ and upwards, however, it’s a completely different story. One gripe I have about the Veho Muvi K2 is its white balance. Its auto white balance tends to make things warm even when not needed at times. I had to point the Veho Muvi K2 to the floor a few times when the auto white balance wasn’t going well just to adjust it properly. It often turns photos and videos pinkish when exposed to bright lights or when pointed to the sky, too – a little too sensitive, I guess. If you are looking for an action camera that gets the job done, I’d highly recommend the Veho Muvi K2 because it provides good quality and doesn’t wash out video colors. The photos look crisp and well-saturated, as well. The Veho Muvi K2 is great for those who plan on casually using an action camera, in other words. However, for those who want an action camera with stunning quality, 4K resolution, and great low light capabilities while being amazing for professional and editing use, GoPro is still the king. The Veho Muvi K2 is priced at Php 13,995.00 at Widget City Hub.
