In 2025, the University of the Philippines Filipiniana Dance Group proudly celebrates its 90th anniversary with USBONG: The UP Filipiniana 90th Anniversary and Homecoming Concert, scheduled for July 27, 2025, at the Varsity Training Center, UP Diliman, with performances at 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
“USBONG,” meaning “sprout” or “growth,” symbolizes both the deep roots of tradition and the vibrant evolution of Filipino culture through dance. As the official cultural varsity dance group of the University of the Philippines, the UP Filipiniana Dance Group (UPFDG) has long been at the forefront of preserving, innovating, and performing Philippine folk and indigenous dances both locally and internationally.
USBONG also marks the group’s homecoming concert following their successful tour across Italy as official representatives of the Philippines in the CIOFF International Festivals Circuit, held from July to September 2024. Performing on world stages before global audiences, the group brought Philippine heritage to life and carried with them the spirit of Filipino excellence and artistry.
The 3:00 PM matinee show will feature the Italy Tour Homecoming Concert, showcasing the repertoire performed during their CIOFF tour. The 7:00 PM gala show, meanwhile, will unite current members and alumni performers in a powerful tribute to the group’s nine-decade journey, honoring its legacy, mentors, and artistic evolution. The performances in both shows will feature alumni, former artistic directors, and mentors, highlighting their contributions to the group’s legacy. A mix of traditional folk dances performed on the Italy tour will be featured, accompanied by live music, and to conclude, a medley of modern, jazz, and contemporary pieces.
More than just a performance, USBONG is a celebration of generations—those who laid the foundation of the group, those who continue to grow its branches, and those who will carry its torch forward. The concert features traditional pieces, original choreographies, and collaborative works that pay homage to both memory and movement.
