Right before the close of the 30th Southeast Asian Games, Timor Leste finally claims a couple of medals to bring home to their country. They had previously trended on Twitter last December 3 due to their medal tally, with the Philippines rallying behind them and cheering on their attempts to win.
Boxer Quintas da Silva Jose Barreto was the first to put an end to the long wait for a medal. He won the bronze medal in the men’s flyweight semifinal at the PICC Forum on Sunday.
Da Silva may have lost 1-4 to Thailand’s Ammarit Yaodam in the men’s flyweight 52kg category, but his appearance in the semifinals earns him a third-place finish.
Later in the day Amorin Imbrolia Araujo dos Reis achieved another bronze medal for their country at a Taekwando event. She bested numerous other athletes in the Under 57 kg Sparring Events at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Filipinos were ecstatic after both wins, happily congratulating Timor-Leste for their continued efforts.
