Here’s a theater production you shouldn’t miss: tick, tick… BOOM! is set to return on stage this 2023.
9 Works Theatrical announced earlier this week that they will restage the musical after its 2002, 2009, and 2016 runs.
tick, tick… BOOM! will open in August 2023. There are no exact dates or ticketing details yet.
The musical, created by Jonathan Larson, is about Jon, an aspiring composer worrying about his career choices in the performing arts. It began as a workshop in 1990 and Larson continued to develop the piece until 1993. Further productions stopped due to Larson’s untimely death in 1996, the day before the first Off-Broadway preview performance of his other musical, Rent.

In 2001, Larson’s friend and production partner, Victoria Leacock, and playwright David Auburn debuted the off-Broadway performance of tick, tick… BOOM!
It achieved success, earning a West End production, an American national tour, two Off-Broadway revivals, and local and international productions. In 2021, Lin-Manuel Miranda directed a film adaption starring Andrew Garfield in the role of Jon. Garfield was nominated at the Academy Awards for Best Actor.
In the Philippines, it was staged by Atlantis Productions in 2002, by the Ateneo Blue Repertory in 2009, and by 9 Works Theatrical in 2016.
