“I will not be watching Miss Universe this year,” Pia said regretfully. “My travel show was invited by the tourism board of Japan to feature a festival in Fukuoka. Our working visas were released already before [Miss Universe Organization] MUO announced the date and venue.”

Pia also said that she was invited to be the backstage host for the pageant this year. And although she really wanted to do so, she explained that she can’t because of the schedule conflict.

“It would also be impolite for me to cancel my trip to Japan,” she added. “Government invitation yun. At may mga visa na kami. Sayang. If I had known sooner baka nagawan ko pa ng paraan. (It’s a government invitation. And we were already issued visas. What a waste. If I had known sooner, maybe I would have thought of a compromise.)”
