If you’re still on an AsiaPOP Comicon high, we have great news for you: two Filipino artists are part of the creative team working on the new line of Captain America comics for Marvel!

The artists are Leinil Yu and Gerry Alanguilan, two respected names in the industry.

Yu is a prolific comic book artist who has drawn on issues for the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Superman, the New Avengers, Star Wars, and many more. One of his most recent covers is the Phoenix Resurrection: The Return of Jean Grey for Marvel.

Alanguilan is just as respected, having worked on issues for the X-Men, Superman, Fantastic Four, and more. In 2011, he received a nomination for Best New Album for his original graphic novel Elmer at the Will Eisner Industry Awards, the comics industry’s answer to the Oscars.

For the new line of Captain America comics, Yu told ABS-CBN News that his drawings will be “less fantastic” and “more grounded in reality.”

The story will be written by Ta-Nehisi Coates, who wrote a series for Black Panther.

The first issue was launched last July 4th, in time for the US’ Independence Day.
