Taylor Swift will never fail to amaze us.
After catching the entire world off-guard with a surprise album drop during quarantine, the 30-year-old singer has already snatched the title of having the best-selling album of 2020…and it’s only been a week!

The album, titled “folklore,” has amassed more than 2 million global sales and more than half a billion total audio and video streams across various platforms since its release on July 24. Its lead single “cardigan” also debuted number one on the Global Spotify chart and gained the most daily streams on Spotify of 2020.
With these achievements (and a whole lot more), it’s no question that “folklore” can already claim to be the top-selling album of the year, her label Republic Records said in a statement.

At the time she announced the arrival of her full-length album, she opened up on what inspired her to create new music amid a public health crisis. “Most of the things I had planned this summer didn’t end up happening, but there is something I hadn’t planned on that DID happen,” she said.
“Before this year I probably would’ve overthought when to release this music at the ‘perfect’ time, but the times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed. My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world. That’s the side of uncertainty I can get on board with,” she added.
