Mayonnaise Ice Cream Is Real And We’re Not Sure How To Feel About It

From nostalgic flavors like White Rabbit to the downright bizarre taste of yosi, it’s certainly been an inventive year for ice cream flavors. But 2019 isn’t over yet and there’s still plenty of time to squeeze in a few more crazy ice cream flavors. The most recent ice cream flavor that has us tilting our heads in confusion would be Japan’s mayonnaise-flavored ice cream.

Morinaga Milk Industry, a Japanese milk products and candy manufacturer, recently unveiled their newest offering: The Calorie Monster Cherio Creamy Mayonnaise Flavor. The ice cream bar features a white chocolate center surrounded by mayonnaise-flavored ice cream. It is then coated with a white chocolate shell and cookie crumbs.

(Unique Ice Cream Flavors: Kape and Yosi, Keso and Kamote, Champorado and Tuyo, and More!)

It is aptly named the Calorie Monster because the slim bar packs a punch with 307 calories. To put this in perspective, some food and drinks which hold roughly the same amount of calories include an order of milk tea or a baked potato with sour cream.

While the choice of flavor may seem odd it’s worth remembering that Japan is a country that takes pride in their production of mayonnaise. They often consider Kewpie mayonnaise as the best in the world. We wonder if that loyalty for the food item will extend to this bold new ice cream flavor.

The ice cream bar is now available in convenience stores and supermarkets around Japan. It will be sold until March 2020.
