In an interview at Tonight with Boy Abunda, Arjo Atayde’s mother Sylvia Sanchez reveals that she hasn’t met her son’s girlfriend Maine Mendoza yet.
According to her, their busy schedules have prevented them from finally meeting each other. Despite this, Sylvia expressed her happiness over the young couple’s relationship against all odds.

“Sinabi ko kay Arjo, ‘Bakit mo nagustuhan si Maine?’ Sagot ni Arjo, ‘Swak kaming dalawa eh.
Nagkakaintindihan kami at napapatawa [ako] ni Maine,'” she said. She also shared how her son would travel all the way to Maine’s home in Bulacan just to court her, which Sylvia says all men should do.
“Minahal niya talaga si Maine. Mahal talaga ng anak ko si Maine.”
Sylvia admitted that it’s hard for her as a mother to hear many of Maine’s fans bash her son online. But knowing that Maine stood up for Arjo and their relationship brings her joy and relief. “Nasa top ka, Maine Mendoza ka at hinahangaan ka… Grabe yung career mo at alam natin na pwedeng maapektuhan ‘to, alam natin ‘yun, pero nilaban mo ang anak ko,” she said with gratitude.

She also mentioned that Arjo has promised to bring home Maine “soon” and looks forward to being introduced to her.
