Studying abroad and having a degree from a UK university is a symbol of prestige the world over. Currently, pursuing an education in the UK is within reach and surprisingly affordable compared to the usual destinations favoured by many Filipinos. Depending one one’s focus, length of study and course option, a postgraduate course normally takes only one year to finish while an undergraduate course can be completed in just 3 years.
The possibilities of where and how to study abroad in the UK are infinite. Now, there are more than 5,000 Filipino students spread all across the isles attaining an international education. This reflects one of the largest growth rates in the region, considering that in 1996, there were only 300 Filipinos studying in the UK.
Filipino alumni of British colleges and universities are successful and are highly regarded in their respective fields. They have found greater opportunities for employment and are given good positions in their companies upon returning to the Philippines. Among the outstanding Filipinos who studied in the UK are former University of the Philippines President Francisco Nemenzo, former AIM President Roberto de Ocampo, accomplished lawyers Katrina Legarda, Harry Roque and Danny Concepcion, stage actress Monique Wilson, Harrods’ senior designer Lesley Mobo and current PCGG Commissioners Richard Amurao, Maita Chan-Gonzaga and Gerard Mosqueda.
Free seminars about British education will also run alongside the study abroad Education UK Exhibition.
