In case you haven’t heart, Studio Ghibli is releasing a sequel to the well-loved 1995 film “Whisper of the Heart” — but it’s going to be in live-action form!
“Whisper of the Heart,” written by Hayao Miyazaki and directed by Yoshifumi Kondō, based on the manga of the same name by Aoi Hiiragi, is a coming-of-age romantic drama about the love that blossomed between young students Shizuku Tsukishima and Seiji Amasawa who go their separate ways to pursue their dreams while promising to marry each other one day.
The live-action sequel will then follow the two characters 10 years into the future, possibly already having made careers out of their individual passions—Seiji as a violin-maker and Shizuku as a novel writer. The trailer below suggests that the two have kept in touch through those years via handwritten letters. Watch it here!
Shizuku will be played Nana Seino while Seiji will be played by Tori Matsuzaka.
It is scheduled to premiere in Japan on October 14, 2022.
