Pop Culture is a big part of language. This year, the words ‘swole’ and ‘clapback’ have landed in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary.
Another addition to the dictionary is the word ‘stan’, which was originally popularized by Eminem and Dido in their song of the same title. The word was already a part of the Oxford English Dictionary; and now, the word is officially a legitimate noun and verb in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary.

According to Merriam-Webster, stan (noun) means “an extremely or excessively enthusiastic and devoted fan”, while stan (verb) means to “exhibit fandom to an extreme or excessive degree: [are] an extremely devoted and enthusiastic fan of someone or something,”
The etymology for the word credits Eminem or Marshall Bruce Mathers III as its origin.
