Some of the Stars We Lost in 2016

2016 was one hell of a year, as it turned our world topsy turvy in more ways than one — through politics, current events and even in the entertainment industry. This year may count just some of the most shocking news of celebrities who have passed on. We remember just some of the beloved icons we lost this year.

10. Christina Grimmie

The 22-year-old The Voice alum and Youtube star zeldaxlove64 met an untimely demise after she was fatally shot at a meet-and-greet in one of her shows in Orlando, Florida.

9. Lilia Cuntapay

“Horror Queen” Lilia Cuntapay, died in her Ilocos Norte home August of this year. She was 81. Cuntapay suffered from a spinal cord ailment that left her unable to walk. She was best known for starring in various horror films from the 80s, 90s and 2000s.

8. Wenn Deramas

Director Wenn Deramas, at the helm of several Pinoy box office films, died from a cardiac arrest in February this year. He was 49.

7. David Bowie

Bowie was a musical legend known for his gender-bending style inspired so many artists after him. He died from liver cancer in his New York apartment, two days after his 69th birthday.

6. Alan Rickman

Award-winning English actor Alan Rickman, most popularly known for his role as Severus Snape in the Harry Potter franchise, died in January this year from pancreas cancer, which was kept private. Rickman had served as a mentor to many famous actors, and his iconic voice will always be remembered.

5. Prince

The musical icon, known for hits such as Purple Rain, When Doves Cry, and Little Red Corvette, died in June after an accidental drug overdose, just 7 days after his last performance. He was 57.

4. Carrie Fisher

Carrie, best known for starring as Princess Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy, passed days after suffering a massive heart attack aboard a plane from London. She was 60.

3. Debbie Reynolds

Just a day after daughter Carrie Fisher died, Oscar-nominated actress Debbie Reynolds, 84, died from a stroke. Reynolds shot to fame after starring in Singin’ in the Rain when she was 19.

2. Gene Wilder

Actor Gene Wilder, most famously known for playing Willy Wonka in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, died at the age of 83 in August from complications of Alzheimer’s disease, a condition he kept private.

Legendary boxer Muhammad Ali died at the age of 73 from septic shock, days after he was hospitalized due to a respiratory illness.
