Reports started circulating online yesterday, May 9, that the award-winning hotel in Manila is closing down. Today, Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila released a statement to the media regarding its closure.

The five-star hotel “will close and cease operations starting July 1, 2024,” according to Sofitel’s statement. “This decision comes as part of our ongoing commitment to providing our guests and colleagues with the best possible experience.”

Nevertheless, Sofitel will reportedly honor engagements and reservations until the end of June. It also expressed gratitude for the support and patronage it received. “We are deeply grateful for the unwavering support and patronage of our stakeholders, employees, and guests who have been instrumental in this long journey,” it added.

Known for hosting heads of state, celebrities, and global corporations throughout decades, Sofitel was built in 1973 and opened its doors in 1976.
