San Miguel Corporation (SMC) President and COO Ramon Ang has been vocal in his support of free mass testing for COVID-19 in poor areas as well as regulated pricing for the public.

“We need to be able to find a way to make testing accessible to all. Everyone should have equal access, not just those who have the means,” said Ang.

He added that the government should be making testing for COVID-19 affordable for regular Filipinos and small companies by regulating the price of testing.

SMC has committed to aiding the government in keeping prices for COVID-19 tests low by increasing the Philippines’ testing capacity.

“We are fully committed to helping all our Metro Manila LGUs increase their COVID-19 testing capabilities, in support of the national government’s expanded testing goals,” Ang said.

In SMC’s home city of Mandaluyong, the corporation is already working with the LGU to protect the cost of testing.

A total of 24 testing booths were turned over to Mandaluyong, Pasig, and Manila. The company will deliver testing booths to the remaining LGUs as well as Php 3 million worth of PCR tests amounting to 34,000 tests to all 17 Metro Manila LGUs.

An additional donation of 3 sets of RT-PCR testing machines and automated RNA machines will be turned over to key government hospitals.

“With these donations, we hope to help boost testing particularly in our less-fortunate communities where many underprivileged families are extra vulnerable, due to their living conditions,” Ang said.
