The United Architects of the Philippines Student Auxiliary- Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, in cooperation with Rain or Shine, UAP Manila Corinthian Chapter, Matimco, Emerald, Joyous Treats, South Republik, and Bluprint Magazine, together with the official media partner, When In Manila, celebrated its 8th annual UAPSA Day this 2014 with the theme, SEMPITERNAL: Transcending Infinity, Defying Impossibility, held last November 27-28, 2014 at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila and at the Club Intramuros Golf Course The Fairways respectively.
SEMPITERNAL: Transcending Infinity, Defying Impossibility
The two-day event started with a Eucharistic celebration presided at the PLM Chapel which was attended by the whole College of Architecture and Urban Planning community. Afterwhich, in behalf of Arch. Gil C. Evasco, uap, the College Dean, Arch. Antonio C. Nudas III, uap , the College Secretary, welcomed everyone to the 8th UAPSA Day celebration thru his opening remarks. Consequently, Ms. Maricar C. Guycoa, UAPSA-PLM Chapter President, made a run-down of the activities for the event which include the Academic Competitions (Design Competition, Rendering Competition, Photography Competition, Quiz Bee), ArkiRace, and the most awaited event of the year, the search for this year’s Arkibabe and Arkidude 2014.
Indeed, the first day of the two-day celebration was filled with fun learning experiences as the contestants endeavored to bring pride to their respective blocks as they represent their follies in the academic competitions. Moreover, the thrill and challenge of the rainy weather added to the rush of competitiveness and excitement of the participants of the 10-station ArkiRace, a race adaptation of UAPSA-PLM within the vicinity of Intramuros, Manila.
On the second day of the event, November 28, 2014, blessed with a fine weather, the much anticipated search for the Arkibabe and Arkidude 2014 was set at the Club Intramuros Golf Course The Fairways. The Arkibabe and Arkidude 2014 began with an opening prayer which was led by Mr. Amiel Patrick A. Punzalan, UAPSA-PLM Internal Affairs Officer. Soon enough, to welcome the enormous number of audience, Arch. Paulo C. Pineda 1, uap, UAPSA-PLM Chapter Adviser, gave his welcoming remarks. Ravishing, talented, and witty pairs from each block finally made their grand entrance to open the production number.
Ten (10) talented and well-humored pairs filled the whole night with laughter and great time as they ramped their elaborate theme wears and silver inspired evening wears, owned the limelight in their talent potion performances, and manifested the quick-wittedness of PLM students in the question and answer portion.
In between wears and portions, video ads from Rain or Shine and Matimco, two of the sponsors of the event, are shown. Furthermore, the intermission number from Mr. Joemar Patubo and Mr. Kenth Galvez and the raffle draw which was sponsored by South Republik and Bluprint Magazine boosted the spirits of the audience in the intervals.
Shortly after the Question and Answer portion of the pageant, the winners of the Academic Competitions and the ArkiRace, were awarded: Kirsten Franz Ferrer (1st year cluster), Vinz Dominic Rodriguez (2nd year cluster), Kristian Jim Hufalar (3rd year cluster), Ramses Mark Sanota (4th year cluster), and Ronel Lacson (5th year cluster) for the Design Competition; Josef Daniel Ibo (1st place), Daniel Delgado (2nd place), and Effierae Tala (3rd place) for the Rendering Competition; Jose Noriel Florendo (1st place) for the Photography Competition; Beatriz Llamas, Beatriz Garcia, Danicah Villacorte, Venice Tobias, and Jennie Morante (1st place), Ramil Mallari Jr., Daniel Roquel, Daniel Gracia, Patrick Capito, and Cherrie Ann Montecillo (2nd place), and William Garcia, Joshua Caronan, Paul Jonas Tenorio, Rolandson Trinos, and Alyanna Kristee Miranda (3rd place) for the Scale Model Competition; Jheany Rose Yap, Van Murraye Abino, and Frances Yalong (1st place) for the Quiz Bee; and the Black Team (1st place) composed of Juztin Dominic Torres, Gloriana Riva, Rinnalyn Gabot, Cherrie Profeta, Dana Dalayap, and Arrio San Gabriel for the ArkiRace.
Lastly, the winners for the Arkibabe and Arkidude were named. Mr. Daniel Gazmen was hailed as Arkibabe 2nd runner up together with Ms. Hannah Teodoro as Arkidude 2nd runner up. While Mr. John Arvin Cristobal and Ms. Shara Canlas landed on the Arkibabe and Arkidude 2014 1st runner up slot. Finally, Mr. Louie Suizo and Ms. Ramela Felipe were crowned as Arkibabe and Arkidude 2014.
To wrap this spectacular event, Ms. Maricar C. Guycoa, UAPSA-PLM Chapter President, addressed her Closing Remarks, congratulating all winners, and thanking all who participated in the two-day event which made UAPSA-PLM transcend the infinite and defy the impossible.
