Selena Gomez’ Revival Tour is Truly a Revival of Sorts

Selena Gomez

After three years of waiting, Selena finally held a concert in the Philippines via her Revival Tour at the Mall of Asia Arena on July 31. The “Hands to Myself” singer was supposed to visit Manila during her Stars Dance Tour back in 2013. Being in the country for the first time, Selena exclaimed: “It’s so far from home, but when I get onstage, I feel right at home with you.” (Isn’t she the sweetest?)

The American singer opened the night with her hit song “Same Old Love,” “Come and Get It,” “Sober,” and “The Heart Wants What It Wants.” Fans were thrilled when Selena performed  her “throwback” tracks “Love You Like A Love Song” and “Who Says.

” The singer also introduced Hillsong’s “Transfiguration” to the crowd as one of the songs that helped her get back up.

She says, “Being twenty-four, I feel like I need this [song] more now than I needed back then.”

It could be recalled that the former “Wizards of Waverly Place” star encountered some setbacks in the past few years: she had an on-and-off relationship with former beau Justin Bieber, she was diagnosed with lupus and had to undergo rehabilitation, and she also had to deal with body-shaming comments from netizens who constantly nitpicked on her figure. (She looks perfectly fine, everyone! In fact, she’s absolutely stunning.

Selena even admitted during one of her talks last 2014: “I lost sight of who I was, I listen to opinions of people, and I try to change who I am because I thought that others would accept me for it.” However, the 24-year-old pop star decided to just be the Selena Gomez we have come to love: the strong lady who finally decided to be happily single, the girl who’s brave enough to openly admit the struggles she had to go through, and someone who’s comfortable in her own skin – enough to do and wear anything she wants and not care about what other people think. As she said so once: “I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off of me, [after deciding to be more of who I really am.]”

Selena ended the night with “Kill Em with Kindness” and her title track “Revival.” Selena’s “Revival” album showcased her growth as an artist, and the tour served as her comeback to show-off a more confident image of herself. As she says, “This is my revival,” and it surely is.
