Whether you are a fan of Selena Gomez or not and whether the rumours are true or not, learning more about this debilitating disease wouldn’t hurt. So here’s a rundown of the basics:

1. Lupus attacks the organs of the body, but is hard to diagnose as the causes are still unknown. In other words, a lot of people suffer from lupus without even knowing about it!!! Most of the time, lupus can only be diagnosed through a series of different tests.

2. Common symptoms of lupus include a butterfly-shaped rash on the face, skin lesions, trouble breathing, joint pain, chest pain, headaches, dry eyes, memory loss and fever.

3. Lupus is most common in women from 15 to 35 years old.

There is currently no way to prevent or cure lupus. However, once diagnosed, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can be taken to control it. If left untreated, lupus could bring about strokes, seizures, kidney damage and anemia.

It is being said that Selena Gomez has been battling lupus for years now, but it is only recently that the disease has truly caught up with her. If this is the case, let’s hope she gets better soon and let us also be more watchful of our own health from now on while we’re at it When in Manila.
