Kylie Padilla’s father, Robin Padilla, has allegedly confirmed the breakup between Kylie and Aljur Abrenica in an interview with Ogie Diaz.
Rumors of their split started in February 2021 when the mother of two shared a cryptic post on her Instagram stories that read “More selflove, babygirl” and another long text post that talked about finding happiness in being alone.
“The capacity to be alone is the capacity to love. It may look paradoxical to you, but it’s not,” the post read. “It is an existential truth: only those people who are capable of being alone are capable of love, of sharing, of going into the deepest core of another person, without possessing the other, without becoming dependent on the other, without reducing the other to a thing, and without becoming addicted to the other. They allow the other absolute freedom, because they know that if the other leaves, they will be as happy as they are now. Their happiness can’t be taken by the other, because it is not given by the other.”
As rumors began to spread, however, Kylie immediately posted a photo of Aljur with their children to seemingly debunk the news.
But in the interview between Robin and Ogie that was aired on July 7, Robin addressed the issue and eventually revealed that the couple truly did break up.
“Una, walang sinasabi yung anak ko. Kasi yun naman, noon pa, lagi kong tinatanong si Kylie, ‘Agrabyado ka ba?’ (Initially, my daughter was silent. Because I kept asking her before, ‘Are you aggravated?’)” he said to Ogie. “‘Di naman daw, ‘Okay lang ako Pa.’ Tas ito, tinanong ko rin siya ulit, ‘Anak, agrabyado ka ba?’ ‘Hindi Pa, ako nakipaghiwalay eh.’ (She said she wasn’t. ‘I’m okay, Pa.’ Now, I ask her again. ‘Are you aggravated?’ ‘No, Pa, I’m the one who broke it off.’)”
Robin clarified that he had nothing to do with their split and that he won’t be meddling in his daughter’s personal affairs. “Wala naman papel ang tatay dun. Hindi ka dapat makialam. Away ng mag-asawa yun eh, may mga anak pa. Masakit syempre sa akin. (A father has no role in it. You shouldn’t meddle. It’s an issue between the couple, and there are children involved too. Of course, it hurts me.)”
He also revealed that Aljur has been calling him but he chose not to answer the calls. “Sabi ko, isa lang ang gusto ko, tumigil kayo sa social media, nakakahiya yan! Isipin mga anak. Para sa akin lang, balang araw makikita ng mga anak niyo yan. (I told him, I only want one thing: stop what you’re doing on social media, it’s embarrassing! Think of the kids. I just think that one day, your children will see all of this.)”
Despite all this, he believes that the two still love each other and that they should eventually fix their problem instead of separating.
