Rica Peralejo shared her insights about unfollowing people on social media through the social media platform Threads. She reiterated that it’s not a sign of immaturity but an “issue of control.”
“To unfollow people on socmed is not immaturity. It is an issue of control. It is an act of agency,” she wrote.

The former actress mentioned that this act can be an “empowering practice” to end the cycle of oppression of abusers or gaslighters.
She added, “Especially when we unfollow abusers, gaslighters, or people we associate with the root of our oppression, it is then an empowering practice to say, even in a small way, that ‘You cannot do this to me anymore.'”

Her post came after Kathryn Bernardo unfollowed her ex-boyfriend, Daniel Padilla, on Instagram over a month after confirming their breakup. Fellow celebrities Liza Soberano and Julia Barretto have also been removed from her following list.
Another celebrity who recently unfollowed people on social media was Sarah Lahbati. On January 9, she unfollowed her husband, Richard Gutierrez, on Instagram, including the latter’s mother, Annabelle Rama, and siblings, Ruffa Gutierrez and Raymond Gutierrez. The Gutierrez family also unfollowed Lahbati afterward.
Peralejo, on the other hand, didn’t mention anyone in her post. In the comments section, some netizens agreed with her. They wrote:
“Correct, in case of Instagram mute na lang para di nila makita na inunfollow sila lol [Correct, in case of Instagram, just mute them so they won’t see you unfollow them lol].”
“Correct! You have the power to eliminate stress in your life.”
“Couldn’t agree more. I even blocked people who are toxic on socmed. As I age, I don’t want negativity anymore. My goal is to live happy with the love of the Lord.”
Peralejo has been married to Joseph “Joe” Bonifacio since 2010, with whom she shared two children.
