Collegiate golf in the Philippines is reaching new heights as the 2025 Philippine Intercollegiate Golf Series (PHIGS), presented by the Philippine Golf Foundation and in partnership with Cignal TV as the official media partner, tees off its season on February 23, 2025, at the Royal Northwoods Golf and Country Club. This inaugural event marks the beginning of a year-long series to foster competitive collegiate golf in the country.
The first leg of the PHIGS 2025 Team Event will be a three-day championship, held on February 23, the second leg on March 2, and the third leg on March 9. Participating teams will compete in a Stableford team format (men’s division: 4 players per team, 3 to count; women’s division: 3 players per team, 2 to count), bringing together the country’s top universities, including the University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, University of Santo Tomas, De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, Mapúa University, De La Salle University-Dasmariñas, Arellano School of Law, and the University of the Cordilleras.
Defending champions De La Salle University, under the leadership of co-captains Santino Laurel and Perry Bucay, will look to retain their crown, setting the stage for an intense showdown. However, archrivals Ateneo de Manila University, led by Team Captain Paco Barro, are determined to challenge for the title and reclaim collegiate golf supremacy. Meanwhile, the University of the Philippines, returning to the tournament under the captaincy of Emilio Carpio, aims to add competitive intrigue this season.
This year also welcomes a surge of fresh talent, with Mapúa University, Arellano University School of Law, the University of the Cordilleras, and De La Salle University-Dasmariñas all eager to make their mark on the collegiate golf scene.
