At a time when misinformation, stereotypes, and oversimplified explanations dominate public discourse, the Husay ng SokSay: Inter-High School Competition emerges as a vital platform for young Filipinos to critically engage with society through the lens of the social sciences. Since its launch in 2022, the competition has steadily grown into a nationwide movement, reaching more than 100 schools and drawing 74 participating institutions in 2024. More than a contest, it has become a meaningful space where students discover how the social sciences can illuminate pressing issues, sharpen critical thinking, and inspire collective action.

The 4th Husay ng SokSay, organized by the UPLB Sociology Society, continues this mission by centering Filipino lived experiences in social inquiry. As the organization celebrates its 50th year, it remains committed to making the social sciences relevant to everyday realities. This year’s theme, “Mga Kwentong Buhay: Challenging Narratives, Shaping Truths,” invites students to examine the stories that shape society and to question dominant narratives often accepted without scrutiny.
It encourages participants to connect these social challenges to daily life and uncover deeper social conditions tied to social class, gender, power, traditions, and inequality. By grounding analysis in personal and community stories, Husay ng SokSay emphasizes that truth is not absolute but shaped by perspective and context.
The event is open to Junior and Senior High School students and features diverse categories designed to highlight different forms of expression. Competitions include Essay Writing, Speech, Mobile Phone Photography, and Short Film Making. Each category provides students with the opportunity to creatively translate social science concepts into compelling outputs—whether through written arguments, spoken narratives, visual storytelling, or creative filmmaking.
Beyond competition, Husay ng SokSay seeks to nurture social awareness and responsibility among the youth. It pushes participants to question whose voices are amplified, whose are silenced, and why certain narratives exist in society. In doing so, it underscores the vital role of the social sciences in understanding social realities and inspiring collective action.
As the 4th Husay ng SokSay draws near, it stands as a powerful reminder that the voices of the youth are not just echoes of tomorrow—they are catalysts of change today. By grounding conversations in lived experiences, the event nurtures empathy, sparks critical reflection, and deepens appreciation for the social sciences. More than a competition, it is a movement that celebrates stories as bridges of understanding and seeds of transformation. In the end, Husay ng SokSay affirms that to truly grasp the essence of society, we must first listen to the heartbeat of its people—their struggles, triumphs, and truths.
