Announced during the Coffee Fest in Madrid, Spain on February 17, the organizers behind the inaugural list have established a “comprehensive set of criteria” that focuses on the following key aspects: quality of coffee, barista expertise, customer service, innovation, ambiance and atmosphere, sustainability practices, food and pastry quality, and consistency.

The four coffee shops that earned the spot are Yardstick Coffee, El Union Coffee, Single Origin, and Crema & Cream Coffee Roasters.

Yardstick Coffee, which has been proudly roasting specialty coffee since 2013, took the 18th spot. They have branches in Legazpi Village, Salcedo Village (via Cartel Deli), MOA Square, The Podium (via The Daily Cut), Rockwell Powerplant Mall, and SM Aura.

“They source and roast only the best coffees out there. Seasonal coffees are available for espresso and filter,” World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops wrote in an Instagram post. “In this coffee shop located in Makati every day, there are at least five different coffees for you to choose from. In addition, the space displays all their machines, equipment, and brewing tools for you to browse and try.”

El Union Coffee, located in La Union, garnered the 61st spot. They are the only coffee shop outside of Metro Manila that was included in the list.

Single Origin, which also has multiple branches around Metro Manila, bagged the 83rd spot, while Crema & Cream Coffee Roasters in Quezon City clinched the 86th spot.

Meanwhile, here are the top ten coffee shops according to the list:

  1. Toby’s Estate Coffee Roasters (Australia)
  2. Onyx Coffee LAB (USA)
  3. Gota Coffee Experts (Austria)
  4. Proud Mary Coffee (Australia)
  5. Tim Wendelboe (Norway)
  6. Apartment Coffee (Singapore)
  7. Kawa (France)
  8. Coffee Anthology (Australia)
  9. Story of Ono (Malaysia)
  10. Tropicalia Coffee (Colombia)

According to its website, The World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops is a “new recognition system around the globe.” To ensure a highly curated selection of the best coffee shops worldwide, they have implemented a “robust voting system” that seamlessly integrates expert insights with public opinion.

In this voting system, the expert panel’s evaluations account for 70% of the final score, while public votes contribute the remaining 30%.
