Peter Dinklage Believes That It’s The Perfect Time to End Game of Thrones

The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones isn’t coming until 2019, leaving GoT fans rather uneasy. And while it’s natural for any fandom to dread the end of their beloved show, actor Peter Dinklage believes that now is the right time for Game of Thrones to come to a close.

The 48-year-old American actor, who plays Tyrion Lannister on the show, spoke about the show during the interview at Variety’s Sundance Film Festival, saying:

“Storywise, not just for all our lives. It’s the perfect time to end it. Sometimes shows stay on a little too long, the jumping-the-shark thing.”

Peter’s character Tyrion has had one of the biggest story arcs throughout the show’s run, from being a derided member of the Lannister clan, to a reluctant Hand of the King to his nephew, Joffrey, to a fugitive, and now Hand of the Queen to Daenerys Targaryen, who is challenging his own sister Cersei in her claim to the throne.

Peter did say that leaving the show was bittersweet:

“It’s always the sad part of our business, because you get pockets of great people for short amounts of time and then you have to move on and it’s always heartbreaking. Especially when you’ve spent more than a couple months with people.”
