After 14 years since the Disney movie Enchanted made our hearts smile with its gleeful song and dance numbers, a sequel is finally in the works. Disenchanted, the sequel’s title, will bring Amy Adams as Giselle and Patrick Dempsey as Robert Philip together once again on screen.
The film’s log describes its plot to be set โten years after her Happily Ever After,” where “Giselle questions her happiness, inadvertently turning the lives of those in the real world and Andalasia upside down in the process.โ
But here’s the more interesting part of about the sequelโMcDreamy, err, Patrick Dempsey, we mean, will be singing on screen for the first time! As much as the first film was filled with song and dance numbers, the Grey’s Anatomy star didn’t exactly participate in them. But he certainly will, now, in Disenchanted.

The actor talked about it in an interview with Variety: “I will be singing for the first time. Iโve never ever sung publiclyโfor a reason. So bear with me,” the actor joked. He continued, “I hope the fans embrace it. But theyโve set me up for success and the lyrics are really fun. The numbers have really great choreography. And the premise is going to be interesting.”
Discussing the process of how the sequel came together, Patrick shared, “Every year they were like, ‘Weโre going to do this. Itโs going to get done,’ but then no one could agree on the script. Itโs such an important film for them and itโs a satire. Itโs not a typical Disney movie. Itโs kind of off-brand a little bit. Yet we give honor to all of those Disney movies that have come before and they finally now have figured it out. And weโre old enough, so itโs like a midlife crisis movie.”
The actor also said that the story is getting better and better. He said, “Thereโs a great cast coming together. And the musical numbers, I get to sing and dance. To work with everybody again after 14 years is just really exciting. We need some escapism right now. We need those romantic comedies and those musicals to get people out of the doldrums that weโre in.”
Disenchanted is for a release in 2022.
