Pasig City deploys ‘mobile palengke’ during enhanced community quarantine

The enhanced community quarantine is currently being implemented in Luzon in order to prevent the further spread of the new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the country.

With this in place, one of the measures implemented is that virtually everyone needs to stay at home unless you need to go out to get food, medicines, or other supplies, or if you are an essential part of preventing the spread of the virus.

However, even with this set in place, crowds of people can still be sometimes seen in markets. Possibly due to fear of being unable to get food, medicine, and other basic needs, people go out frequently to stock up.

To help mitigate this, Pasig City launched its own “mobile palengke” (mobile market).

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto wrote:

(Rough translation: To help lessen the number of people at the Pasig Mega Market and other smaller markets, the mobile market has been launched.

Goods are offered at the same price as the market but they are brought nearer to the buyer. It also serves as help to sellers of Pasig City — all products such as rice, meat, and vegetables come from the Mega Market.

The schedule of the five mobile markets will be post on the Pasig PIO Facebook page.)

The mayor also said that this program is simultaneously done while food/grocery packs are distributed in different barangays.

He emphasized that this is a huge project and there are challenges to it. So, it might take up to seven days to reach all barangays.
