As environmental challenges grow, students from the University of the Philippines Diliman Extension Program in Pampanga (UPDEPP) are stepping up to make a difference. Pangkat Nawá, a student-led initiative, is dedicated to fostering sustainability and environmental responsibility in Barangay San Antonio. This April, their efforts will take shape through a series of community-driven projects.

Derived from the Filipino word nawa, meaning “hope,” Pangkat Nawá envisions Barangay San Antonio as a model for environmental sustainability. By working closely with local officials, schools, and volunteers, the group aims to address pressing environmental concerns, particularly waste management and open-fire burning.
To bring this vision to life, Pangkat Nawá has planned a series of initiatives focused on waste reduction, education, and infrastructure improvement. Volunteers will participate in clean-up drives on March 27 and April 21, 2025, working together to remove litter from streets and public spaces and promote a cleaner, healthier community. Information and educational campaigns on waste management will take place on April 7, 2025, featuring Ms. Glaiza Gaza, Environmental Monitoring Officer of Pampanga’s Environmental Management Bureau Region 3 (DENR-EMB), and Mrs. Fatima Duya, Head of the Municipal Environmental and Natural Resources Office (MENRO). Additionally, 54 new trash bins will be installed throughout Barangay San Antonio on April 28, 2025, to encourage proper waste disposal and contribute to long-term cleanliness.
With the message From Hope to Home, Pangkat Nawá is turning aspirations for a greener barangay into reality. They invite residents, organizations, and businesses to take part—whether through volunteering, advocacy, or adopting responsible waste practices at home.
