“SURPRISE!!! I’ve been trying to contain this excitement for a loooong time while this has been in the works! I am beyond excited to be home again, back with my girl…and into her 30’s,” she wrote in the caption.

The sequel will begin with Lizzie as a 30-year-old millennial navigating life in New York City as an apprentice to a fancy New York City decorator while dating a guy who owns an upscale restaurant.

“I think now is a great time for her to come back in her 30s,” Hilary said on her Instagram stories after her announcement. “She’s everybody’s best friend, and I can’t wait to go on this next chapter with her and I hope everyone is as excited as I am.”

The show’s original creator, Terry Minsky, is set to be the sequel’s executive producer and showrunner.

There’s no word yet if Hilary will be reunited with her on-screen best friends Adam Lamberg (Gordo) and Lalaine (Miranda) as well as her onscreen family Jake Thomas (Matt), Hallie Todd (Mom), and Robert Carradine (Dad).

What we’re sure of, though, is that Lizzie’s animated self will still be around to voice out Real Lizzie’s inner thoughts and ramblings!
