After the 2019 Star City fire, Aliw Theater finally reopens!
The historical complex was a gift to Lisa Macuja-Elizalde in 2002 by her husband, Fred Elizalde. In its grand reopening yesterday, August 10, the prima ballerina shared photos of her and her husband at the theaterโs ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“I made a promise in October 2019 that we would rise againโlike a Phoenix from the ashesโand Ballet Manila will have a home once more,” she wrote. “We re-opened Aliw Theater yesterday in a simple ribbon cutting ceremony; walking tour and short performance of three excerpts from my La Traviata and Cinderella and Martin [Lawrenceโs] Romeo and Juliet.”
Fulfilling the promise, Aliw Theater is now geared with upgraded features such as brand new seats, a spacious and airy theater lobby, state-of-the-art lights and audio equipment, and a giant LED wall, to name a few. It is also now part of the new Elizalde Complexโa group of multipurpose halls for events including Elizalde Hall and The Custom Space.
According toย The Philippine Star, The iconic theater in Pasay City is set to house various ballet performances by Ballet Manila this year. This includes the dance company’s last show before the COVID-19 lockdown titled “La Traviata” in October, and “Cinderella” which will open on Christmas day as part of their Holiday Dance Series.
“Lisa Macuja School, Elizalde Hall, and The Custom Spaceโall launched and ready for more! Bring it on,” Lisa concluded.
