New P20 Coin Is One of Three Finalists for “Best New Coin” in International Currency Awards

Are you loving the new 20-peso coin? Pretty, isn’t it? Well, as it turns out, we’re not the only ones taking notice of the new Philippine coin. The International Association of Currency Affairs, or IACA, has recognized the P20 coin as one of three finalists for the Best New Coin category at the annual Excellence in Currency Awards.

The Philippine coin is up against a 20-peso commemorative coin from Mexico, and Kazakhstan’s 200 tenge coin.

The contending coins will be judged according to set criteria, which include innovation in design, uniqueness, historical or local relevance, esthetic appeal, and more. The winners will be announced on February 22, at IACA’s Banknote and Currency Conference in Washington, DC.

According to IACA, the awards were established to “promote and recognize excellence in banknote and coin production, processing, management, distribution and related activities of the cash community.” The organization is based in Texas, USA.
