There hasn’t been a shortage of buzz surrounding the brand new Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix. Aside from it deviating from any comic canon, it’s also going to have an R-rating. While there are some skeptics who are side-eyeing this ambitious project, a lot of people are excited to see a brand new Joker that they’ve never seen before.
Joker is going to have its premiere at the prestigious Venice Film Festival this August. The festival’s artistic chief Alberto Barbera told Variety that it’s the most surprising film they have this year.
“This one’s going straight to the Oscars even though it’s gritty, dark, violent,” Barbera said. “It has amazing ambition and scope.”

These are very big statements and it only got fans more excited. The official description of the movie states that: “Joker centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. The exploration of Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale.”
Joker is set for a worldwide release on October 4 later this year.
