On March 18-23, 2014, the Mu Sigma Phi Fraternity of the UP College of Medicine will hold MUSIGLA, a week-long set of events advocating proper nutrition to the families of the Mu Sigma Phi – Gawad Kalinga Village in Brgy. Talon Uno, Sta. Rita, Las Piñas. The flagship activity, MUtrition, scheduled on March 23, 2014, will present various activities on food preparation, consumption, and education. Its highlight will be the launching of an Aquaponics farm that aims to teach the families the value of food growing while providing them with a source of high-quality and nutritious food.

Recognizing that health is better won in the kitchen than in the hospital bed, the Fraternity has partnered with award-winning organization Bahay Kubo Organics, in order to utilize its Aquaponics technology and promote its advocacy of generating alternative methods of providing nutritious food to the tables of Filipino families. The Aquaponics technology is a zero-waste, chemical-free, and sustainable method of farming that can be accommodated in the space-limited areas of urban communities to allow families to grow their own fruits, vegetables, and fish. To ensure the sustainability of the project, the fraternity has also partnered with local and GK leaders of Brgy. Talon Uno in Las Piñas in forming a community health team that will maintain and ensure the proper use of the farm and its byproducts.
