Miss England 2019 Bhasha Mukherjee gives up her crown so she can serve as a doctor to fight COVID-19. Before competing in the 2019 Miss World beauty pageant, Bhasha was a junior doctor specializing in respiratory medicine. After the pageant, she took a break from medicine to be an ambassador for different charities.
With the coronavirus affecting the lives of many, she tells CNN that “I felt a sense of this is what I’d got this degree for and what better time to be part of this particular sector than now.” She said, “I wanted to come back home. I wanted to come and go straight to work.”
Bhasha returned to the UK last Wednesday and is reported to isolate for one to two more weeks before she can return to be a doctor at the Pilgrim Hospital. As of writing, there have been 51,608 reported cases of COVID-19 in the UK with 5,373 deaths and 135 recoveries.
