The UP Materials Science Society, in cooperation with PTT Philippines, Nanotech Analytical Services and Training Corp., Jack n’ Jill Pretzel Crisps and Motolite will be hosting the 1st Materials Science and Engineering Summit, a nationwide assembly of undergraduate and graduate students in the field of materials science and its allied fields.
With the theme, “Nucleating Change in the Philippines through Materials Science and Engineering”, the event will be featuring three main events- the Materials Science and Engineering Symposium, the Undergraduate Research Fair and the Materials Science and Engineering Nationwide College Olympiad. It will take place on March 12 to 14, 2015 at the University of the Philippines- Diliman; the NISMED Auditorium (Symposium), the National Engineering Council Theater (Research Fair), and the Engineering Theater (Olympiad).
The Materials Science and Engineering Symposium, which will be held on March 12, is a series of lectures to be given by several materials engineers in the academe who will present the state-of-the-art in the field of materials science. Different companies will also be giving company talks, showcasing the broad application of MSE in the industry.
The Undergraduate Research Fair will be held on March 13. It is a venue to promote a close collaboration between young researchers on a national level through discussion of ideas, experience and knowledge of their work in the field of Materials Science and Engineering.
The Materials Science and Engineering National College Olympiad will be held on March 14. It is an inter-university quiz show that aims to pursue academic excellence, as well as promote a healthy competition among college students with materials science and engineering as the central focus.
The registration fees are as follows: Listener’s Fee- P200 for one day, P500 for three days; Research Fair Oral Presentation- P500; and Olympiad- P500 per team.
