To pair with the paella, we had two main courses. The first was Lengua with Three Mushroom Cheese Sauce(410php). The ox tongue was served in a heavy cream sauce with mashed potatoes on the side, and topped with oyster, button, and shiitake mushrooms. As a mushroom lover myself, I enjoyed this dish so much. I’m also pretty big on mashed potatoes, so putting the two together was heaven in my mouth.
Our other main dish was the Pan Grilled Salmon in Black Risotto(545php). The salmon was truly “grilled to perfection” as the menu promised; light pink and the perfect point between flaky and moist.
Served on top of risotto that was colored black with squid ink and with mango salsa on the side, this unique dish is definitely something I recommend trying.
As we winded down, our eyes bigger than our stomachs, we were served the Crispy Bagnet Sliders(205php). For my husband who is a huge fan of bagnet, these mini sandwiches got two thumbs up. Topped with coleslaw and a delicious house dressing, the potato wedges and bacon aioli on the side pulled the whole dish together and the sliders were enjoyed with a satisfying crunch.
Finally, we somehow managed to find room in that secret dessert stomach that we all know exists for a slice of Caramel Chocolate Cake(150php) to share. The chocolate cake was fluffy and moist with an amazing chocolate ganache icing that was truly to die for. With a nice layer of caramel to top it, it was sinfully delicious and the perfect way to round out the meal.
Now that you’ve had a peak at some of the fantastic food waiting for you at Mateo’s Restaurant Cafe, you might be interested to know that the restaurant also has function rooms where you can host events. There are three sections to the restaurant, the main one where we dined and a second, slightly more formal room, both of which can host around 45 people.
The third section is a smaller, private room with a long table that can seat up to 16 that would be perfect for business events or family gatherings.
If you’re still trying to decide what special place to spend your holiday gatherings with the family, Mateo’s Restaurant Cafe is an excellent option and should not be overlooked, despite the fact that it’s tucked off of the road a bit. It’s a beautiful hidden place that’s definitely worth exploring!
