When asked about the evolution of her career, from Dubsmash sensation to movie star and model, Maine Mendoza remained adamant about her desire to keep evolving. She admits she doesn’t want to be known as just the viral internet star.

“At some point, you really have to grow. We can’t just stay at the same place. We have to evolve, we have to improve ourselves and parang ako, I don’t want to stay in the shadow of Yaya Dub for the rest of my life, you know?” Maine shared at a TikTok media showcase at BAD Breakfast Bar in Taguig last February 24th.

The event presented the newest batch of viral video creators that won the said app’s contest and were brought in to celebrate with one of the original Filipino viral sensations, Maine Mendoza a.k.a. Yaya Dub. Maine shared words of encouragement to Tiktok influencers and aspiring online creators, offering advice in improving their craft.

Aside from giving advice and helping the video creators, Maine also reflected on her career and her evolution as an artist. The Eat Bulaga host shared, “Siyempre, I’m really thankful naman dahil [as Yaya Dub] talaga nagstart yung career ko pero I want to be known as Maine Mendoza din. Not just the Dubsmasher, not just the one who, you know, nagpapapangit. So I want to show people that I’m capable of doing different things as well.”

When asked about Tiktok as a platform for aspiring viral content creators, Maine remained encouraging. “Well, okay din siyang platform for other people kasi nalalabas nila yung creativity nila diyan. And who knows, diba? Just like me, baka pwedeng sa ganyan sila ma-discover, diba? It would open a lot of opportunities for them, so I’m really happy—and good luck na lang kasi if it’s really for you, it’s for you. It’s gonna happen, eh.”

And good things do seem to happen for Maine. After being slated to appear alongside Vic Sotto and Coco Martin in “Jack Em Popoy: the Puliscredibles” in 2018, Maine was also signed on to partner with cosmetics juggernaut MAC, having her own shade of lipstick under MAC alongside 12 other influencers as part of their MAC Makers line.

What Maine looks forward to the most, however, is the launch of her upcoming studio album, which she hopes her fans would appreciate as much as they had her previous ventures. “I’m focusing on my album and sana po matanggap ng mga tao ang aking susunod na o-offer sa kanila.”

From online sensation to TV host, actress, and singer? We can’t wait to see what Maine Mendoza does next.
