In a special event held on November 15, the low-cost airline officially announced the addition of two international routes—Kuala Lumpur and Macao—and three domestic routes—Caticlan, Iloilo, and Davao—from the Mactan-Cebu International Airport. This historic milestone positions Cebu as a premier destination and travel hub that champions innovation, business, and tourism.

“The establishment of the Cebu hub of AirAsia Philippines strengthens our shared vision of a region that is more connected, more competitive, and more prepared for the opportunities of a rapidly changing world,” said Lapu City Mayor Ma. Cynthia Chan.

“Strengthening air activity means strengthening our people’s access to jobs, investments, and global opportunities, and with the opening of AirAsia’s direct flights… we celebrate yet another achievement that brings Cebu closer to the rest of the world, and opens new possibilities for trade, travel, and cultural exchange,” she added.

The new international routes will operate with the following frequencies: Kuala Lumpur at 14 flights weekly and Macao at 3 flights weekly. Meanwhile, the domestic routes will run as follows: Davao with 18 flights weekly, Iloilo with 4 flights weekly, and Caticlan with 11 flights weekly.

In the same event, AirAsia Philippines CEO and President Capt. Suresh Bangah, AirAsia Aviation Group Chief Commercial Officer Amanda Woo, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Ma. Cynthia K. Chan, Department of Tourism–Region 7 Director Gelena Asis-Dimpas, Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport Corporation CEO Athanasios Titonis, airline executives, members of the media, and KOLs celebrated the inaugural Kuala Lumpur–Cebu flight with a traditional water cannon salute.

Capt. Bangah, who described the Cebu expansion as “world-class” and “efficient,” said in a statement that this strategic partnership is also crucial in providing more affordable travel options and supporting rebuilding efforts in Cebu.

“As we expand our network, we also continue to make meaningful journeys by uplifting the communities we serve,” he said.

Apart from celebrating the new travel routes launched to and from MCIA, the low-cost airline continues to exemplify community-building and disaster preparedness in light of Cebu being heavily affected by Typhoon Tino.

The airline will pledge P15 for every seat sold from November 15, 2025 to January 14, 2026 to support community development and disaster-resiliency initiatives in Cebu. Moreover, through its philanthropic arm, AirAsia Foundation, the company will disburse over P9 million to assist local communities through grassroots organizations such as Bike Scouts, a volunteer-driven network that mobilizes support to help communities in need across the country.
