LOOK: UK Starts COVID-19 Mass Vaccination Program

After reports of the UK approving the Pfizer and BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, the rollout officially started today.

A 90-year-old grandmother named Margaret Keenan received the vaccine at a hospital in Coventry England. “I feel so privileged to be the first person vaccinated against COVID-19,” she said. “It’s the best early birthday present I could wish for because it means I can finally look forward to spending time with my family and friends in the New Year after being on my own for most of the year”, she added.

Citizens over 80 years old, home care workers, and at-risk frontline health and social care staff are the ones to receive the vaccine first and will require a 2nd dose in 21 days.

A regulatory approval was given last Wednesday so the vaccine can be rolled out as soon as possible. It is expected that four million doses will be given by the end of December. The initial 800,000 is for the first batch and they are looking into vaccinating approximately 20million people in total.
