If you are a Potterhead, one of the most iconic looks in Harry Potter is definitely Hermione’s Yule Ball dress. Filipino Designer Julianne Syjuco recreated the iconic dress with her own style and aesthetic.
In an exclusive interview with wheninmanila.com, Julianne shared that she was excited when a client came with the idea of creating a dress inspired by the iconic dress. “I was over the moon! I’m an absolute Harry Potter geek. I grew up with the books, and Hermione has shaped me to be a feminist – both strong yet feminine”, she shared.

Julianne’s version of the dress is for her client Yzzy who celebrated her 7th birthday with a Harry Potter theme.

Julianne shared that there are elements that really appealed to her and reflected her version of the design. “Hermione’s Yule Ball dress was iconic in the Goblet of Fire series. I loved its soft dainty ruffles and its ombré fuchsia rose palette. Like Hermione’s “sweet sixteen coming of age” debut, I felt that Yzzy Bear deserved the same reveal as she bloomed into her 7 year milestone”, Julianne added.
When asked about her own twist on the look, Julianne shared that she was also inspired by her own client. “Like Hermione, Yzzy shines – she’s clever, quick-witted, and loves to sing and perform. I had a vision of translating all that sparkle onto her dress as if she were covered in pixie dust and magic. I sprinkled the gown with clusters of Swarovski crystals, used a beautiful beaded fabric sourced internationally, and layered it with glitter tulle”, Julianne said.
Julianne is no stranger to the spotlight. Her younger clientele also included young fashionista Scarlet Snow Belo. “I’m currently in love with the dress that I designed for cutie Scarlet Snow Belo. It’s a lovely jacquard brocade fabric in rose pink”, Julianne shared.
She previously launched Kathryn Bernardo as the Atelier Julianne Syjuco muse and has been wearing her pieces since.
