Actress and former beauty queen Ruffa Gutierrez is proving that solo travel can be life-changing. On her recent trip to Tanzania, East Africa, Ruffa embraced wildlife, culture, and self-discovery in an adventure that looked straight out of a National Geographic documentary.

One of the most striking moments of her journey was meeting Clara, a female white lion at Serval Wildlife. Ruffa shared that Clara peacefully dozed off beside her, creating an unforgettable memory.
She also clarified that the encounter happened in an ethical and safe environment, emphasizing her stand as an animal lover against sedating or harming wildlife.

Ruffa didn’t stop there. She even got the chance to feed a zebra during her visit, calling it a refreshing escape from the bustle of Manila.
What makes this trip even more special is that it marked Ruffa’s first solo travel in over 10 years.
“For the first time in over a decade, I’m embarking on an exotic holiday without my family, closest friends, or a partner,” she shared on Instagram. “Traveling solo means traveling free. It’s my chance to rediscover myself.”

Her African adventure kicked off at Tarangire National Park, home to the largest population of elephants in the world. Ruffa described watching elephants wander near their lodge and exploring landscapes of baobab trees as “magical.”
She also immersed herself in Tanzania’s culture with a stop at Safariland, where she admired African art and met wildlife roaming freely in their natural home.
No trip to Tanzania would be complete without witnessing the Great Migration at Serengeti National Park. Ruffa and her travel group witnessed not just one, but three dramatic river crossings in a single day—a rare and spectacular sight.

“The greatest show on earth, unfolding right before my eyes,” Ruffa described, as wildebeests, zebras, and other grazers surged forward while crocodiles waited in the river below.
Celebrating family from afar
Even while on her solo journey, Ruffa made sure to celebrate her daughter Venice’s 21st birthday.
She dedicated a heartfelt post to her, expressing pride in her growth and independence.

For Ruffa, this trip was about reconnecting with herself.
Most of the time, she didn’t even have phone signal. Instead of chasing WiFi, she found herself chasing sunrises, sunsets, and the magic of the wild savannah.
“Rediscovering myself in the heart of Africa,” she wrote—a reminder that sometimes, stepping out of our comfort zones leads us back to who we truly are.
