LOOK: Learn Baybayin and Filipino Martial Arts Through These Classes—Sign Up Here

While the COVID-19 pandemic has shut down schools all over the world, Suyomano aims to use this time to extend the four-corners of the classroom by building an online learning platform that offers engaging and socially relevant courses for all audiences.

Through Suyomano, Filipinos seeking to reconnect with their roots get to brush up on their Tagalog and even teach their kids their mother tongue (language classes prove to be a hit among Filipino-Americans) during the lockdown. In the spirit of bayanihan, Suyomano also works to uplift heavily affected displaced workers and indigenous communities by offering an alternative platform where they can continue their work of promoting the Philippines and its culture.

Suyomano is a Filipina-owned digital learning platform that offers a variety of online courses on Philippine arts, culture, cuisine, history, mythology, indigenous medicine, traditional martial arts, and more

Thanks to a growing interest in the ancient script Baybayin among Filipino millennials, Suyomano has launched a series of classes on how to read and write in Baybayin. Other classes also touch on Philippine history and art, including Intramuros Virtual Tour, Wartime Manila Virtual Tour, and the interactive mystery game/virtual tour, Manila Mystery Tour Museum Heist: THE LVNA CODE.

In response to the growing anti-Asian violence abroad, Suyomano’s Filipino Martial Arts expert, Ryan Cordero, is set to hold a free 30-minute class on Filipino Martial Arts (Kali-Arnis-Escrima) in hopes of empowering the Asian community wherever they may be in the world. Filipino martial arts has also recently gained worldwide popularity thanks to Disney’s latest animated film, Raya and the Last Dragon” which featured arnis and traditional Filipino weapons.

Schedule is below for the martial arts classes:
