For those who desperately tried to get tickets for Ang Huling El Bimbo the first time around but couldn’t, this is finally your chance to catch the critically acclaimed musical. For those who did get tickets, the team behind the show promise a fresh enough experience to make a second viewing worth it. And for those who have no idea whatAng Huling El Bimbo even is, it’s a story about the trials and triumphs of 4 friends set to the soundtrack of iconic 90’s rock band, Eraserheads.
What’s interesting aboutAng Huling El Bimbo is that it’s a musical which strongly relies on dichotomy. The story is told in two timelines, with a ‘younger’ cast and an ‘older’ cast to reflect that. Without giving too much away, it focuses on the ‘before’ and ‘after’ of a group of friends. Or at least, that’s what we know from the first run of the show.
We’re told to expect something different in this iteration of the show, though how different we’re not quite sure. Whatever the end product becomes we can be assured that each change is a step closer to that “best version”. This second chance was maximized to its fullest in terms of adjusting and improving — because why settle for something that’s already been done before?
On top of getting a “new” version of Ang Huling El Bimbo was also the announcement that the “old” one has now been immortalized in the form of a cast recording. Available from March 1 onwards is the album recorded by the original cast, with a bonus track from the new cast.
