In this age where body positivity is becoming more relevant to help people, especially young girls, accept and love their own bodies, it is shocking to see a woman, a beauty queen to be exact, pit a woman against another woman.
The winner of Miss Grand Nakhon Phanom 2019 is Thai beauty queen, Coco Arayha Suparurk, who is now causing rage as many disapproved her actions on sharing an Instagram story where Catriona is depicted as “fat” beside the winner of Miss Grand international 2018 Clara Sosa who was described as “fit.”
Coco Arayha is Thailand’s representative for Miss Grand International 2019 where she is competing to win the crown.
It is reported her Instagram story has been deleted or expired as several netizens have been critical towards her body-shaming repost and have left comments on the beauty queen’s other photos to defend Catriona.
As the place she was crowned in, Bangkok holds a special place in Catriona Gray’s journey to Miss Universe 2018. Last week, she was in their country as a special guest for the 2019 Miss Universe Thailand pageant.
It’s also important to note that in Catriona Gray’s farewell speech she talked about body positivity because her body was criticized during the talent portion of Binibining Pilipinas 2018.
“It was this same event that I experienced an increase in bodybashing, bodyshaming from so many in the online community. It’s easy to tell someone to have a ‘thick skin’ but it hurts,” she shared.
“There were days I really struggled reading comments online. And it was definitely a process. But I had to grow to accept and love my unique shape and appreciate my body for its strength and capabilities.”
As of now, Catriona has not shared any statement regarding this matter.
